Venezuela’s Junín-5 Restart and Grid Modernization: Which Automation Spares Matter?
A system-by-system guide to exact-model checks for comparable DeltaV, Bently Nevada 3500 and GE Mark VIe installations.
Equipment list unconfirmed.
The Moore models in this article are catalog examples, not a published bill of materials for Venezuela’s projects.
The news is real; the site-level hardware is not disclosed
On September 2, 2026, the U.S. Department of Energy reported agreements involving Chevron, Eni and GE Vernova for oil production and power infrastructure in Venezuela. On October 28, Eni announced the start of operations at the Junín-5 heavy-oil field. The plan includes restoring abandoned wells and drilling new ones, targeting 200,000 barrels per day by 2028. GE Vernova’s separate agreement covers generation and grid modernization, including thermal and hydroelectric facilities.
Energy agreements reported by the U.S. DOE.
DOE source PDF →Eni reports that Junín-5 operations have begun.
Eni source PDF →200,000 bpd is Eni’s Phase 1 target, not current output.
Target wording PDF →Neither announcement names the Moore products below as equipment installed at Junín-5 or in GE Vernova’s Venezuela work. Use these references only when the customer’s existing control or protection system matches the relevant platform.
Three maintenance paths, three different spare-parts questions
Begin with the installed system and fault location, not with a headline or a product-family name. These items do not substitute for one another.
Emerson DeltaV: verify the complete SQ Controller reference
In an installed DeltaV system, the controller executes the configured control strategy and works with I/O receiving process and equipment signals. A controller failure, I/O failure and field-instrument failure require different spares. “SQ Controller” alone does not identify the correct assembly.
Open the DeltaV verification checklist
- Full KJ2005X1-SQ1 and 12P6383X052 markings
- DeltaV version and controller carrier
- Power and redundancy arrangement
- Fault record that separates controller from I/O or instrument issues
The Moore listing does not establish an automatic substitute for every SQ installation.
Bently Nevada 3500/42M: identify both sides of the rack
Pumps and compressors may rely on a machinery-protection signal path as well as process control. Baker Hughes describes the 3500/42M as a four-channel monitor for proximity and seismic-transducer signals. Depending on configuration, it monitors vibration, thrust position, acceleration or velocity against configured alarms.
Open the 3500/42M verification checklist
- Front monitor, rear I/O or complete listed assembly?
- Rear I/O type and rack/channel configuration
- Transducer type and configured signal
- Probe, extension cable and Proximitor Sensor if the proximity chain is at fault
Changing the monitor alone does not resolve a damaged or mismatched measurement chain. Read the manufacturer datasheet.
GE Mark VIe: a terminal board is not an I/O pack
GE Vernova’s agreement includes generation work but does not specify any individual plant’s control hardware. Where Mark VIe is already installed, Moore lists the IS200TDBTH2A discrete I/O terminal board, described with 24 contact inputs and 12 Form-C relay outputs. GE documentation identifies IS220PDIOH1A as an I/O pack used with that board; they are separate items.
Open the Mark VIe verification checklist
- Complete terminal-board marking
- Installed PDIO pack and approved configuration
- Input-wetting voltage and field wiring
- Whether the fault is on the board, pack or field circuit
A turbine-control spare is not a general replacement for grid or substation equipment. See GE Vernova documentation.
Compare exact models for an installed-system inquiry
Use the arrows to review catalog references across the control, protection and signal-chain layers. These are sourcing examples for comparable installed systems—not a confirmed project BOM.
Recommended-model links support exact-reference checking only. They do not establish interchangeability or site installation.
Send the system evidence, then request the part
Exact spare
Match the complete installed label and assembly boundary. Specify whether the requirement is a controller, monitor, rear I/O module, terminal board or associated pack.
Engineered alternative
State that a substitute is being evaluated. Supply the system version, wiring, I/O, redundancy and protection requirements so compatibility can be reviewed rather than assumed.
- 01Complete part number and label photo
- 02Quantity and exact assembly required
- 03Adjacent module or termination number
- 04Fault description and configuration record
Availability and product condition should be confirmed in the quotation.
