Integrated Control Architecture for Multi-Source Power Systems
In projects involving multiple generators, utility feeders, and bus-tie breakers, control architecture directly impacts system stability and commissioning time. The Woodward easYgen-3000XT series is designed as a centralized genset controller that integrates synchronization, protection, load sharing, AVR control, and process PID functions into one unit.
This eliminates the need for additional in many designs, as the controller already provides configurable PID loops and logic handling. It supports both generator circuit breakers and mains breakers, and in higher models, group breaker control is also included.
The platform is also designed for hybrid systems, allowing coordination with photovoltaic systems, battery storage, and inverter controllers such as easYi. This makes it suitable for microgrid projects where multiple energy sources must be managed in parallel.

Control Functions Based on Actual Grid and Genset Conditions
From an operational standpoint, the Woodward easYgen-3000XT series supports the core control modes required in real installations. These include:
Synchronization (generator, mains, and group breakers depending on model)
Load-dependent start/stop
Import/export control for both kW and kvar
Dead bus paralleling and run-up synchronization
Mains parallel operation with multiple units
The controller also supports up to 48 devices on a load-sharing network when used with LS-5, and extended configurations with LS-6XT for larger systems.
Measurement accuracy is Class 0.5 for voltage and current, with true RMS sensing. Voltage inputs support multiple ranges (100 VAC, 400 VAC, and up to 600 VAC on higher models), and current inputs are configurable for 1 A or 5 A with a setting range up to 32,000 A. This allows the same controller platform to be used across different generator ratings without hardware changes.

The easYgen-3000XT series provides multiple communication and I/O options for integration into automation systems. Depending on the model, it includes:
CAN bus interfaces (up to 3 ports, configurable for CANopen or J1939)
RS-485 with Modbus RTU
Ethernet with Modbus TCP (up to 3 ports in higher models)
USB interface for configuration
I/O capacity varies by model, with up to:
32 discrete inputs and 32 outputs via CANopen expansion
10 analog inputs and 4 analog outputs (±10 V / ±20 mA / PWM)
Support for resistive sensors (VDO, Pt100, Pt1000) and standard signal ranges (0–1 V, 0–20 mA)
The controller also supports display and evaluation of J1939 parameters (up to 100 SPNs), which is useful when interfacing with modern engines.
For environmental conditions, the unit operates from -20°C to 70°C (or down to -40°C with low-temperature variants), with 95% non-condensing humidity tolerance. The front protection rating reaches IP66 with proper mounting, which is relevant for outdoor or industrial panel installations.

Practical Considerations for Engineering and Lifecycle
From a project execution perspective, the easYgen-3000XT series allows on-site configuration and real-time parameter changes, which reduces dependency on pre-programmed logic. This is particularly useful during commissioning when load conditions and system behavior need adjustment.
The controller can also be used as a replacement for earlier Woodward or third-party systems, minimizing retrofit effort.
Power supply flexibility (8–40 VDC) and low intrinsic consumption (max. 22 W) simplify auxiliary power design. In addition, integrated logic and analog handling reduce the need for external modules, which directly impacts automation spare parts planning and long-term maintenance.
For rental and mobile genset applications, optional functions such as operation counters and switchable parameter sets are available, allowing usage tracking and billing integration.
